Investment Management

What does investing mean to you? Cryptocurrencies? NFTs? The investment world is changing due to the popularity of these assets. We feel that more and more people are investing, but, are you confident with the security of these assets? These are unregulated and very high risk investments. There is a place for these investments perhaps, but we want to help you understand how we manage regulated, safeguarded and expertly managed investments. We aim to provide long-term growth as a safer alternative, or to complement your portfolio should your more speculative holdings fail, creating a more secure future.

We want to help our clients create and maintain long-term wealth by investing in assets we understand, through professionally-managed, structured investment portfolios. In short, we want our clients to achieve financial freedom.

An effective strategy for growing your wealth also means making the maximum appropriate use of the right tax-efficient wrappers to invest your money, including ISAs and pensions.

Worried about inflation?

When inflation is at low levels it is easy to overlook the adverse effect it has on your capital and the income it produces. Whatever the current situation, the likelihood is that our bills and the price of goods will be higher in the future. Inflation does not reduce the monetary value of your capital. It reduces the real value, eroding the spending power of your money and potentially putting your standard of living at risk. As Milton Friedman put it “Inflation is taxation without legislation.”

Despite the short-term fluctuations caused by market disruptions, history shows that investing in assets such as equities, bonds and commercial property has proved the best way to grow capital and protect it from inflation over the long term, although that does not necessarily mean this will be repeated.

No-one can predict which investment is going to produce the best returns year after year, but there are two things to note:

  1. The best-performing investment in one year can often turn out to be the worst-performing investment the next year.
  2. By spreading your money across a selection of asset types, countries and sectors, your investments have more potential to achieve more consistent returns.

Key to the distinctive St. James's Place approach is the ability to identify and select fund managers from around the world to look after your money. Contracting out the management of our funds gives us greater freedom and the flexibility to source investment expertise on a global scale. St. James's Place managers are based in cities from London to Cape Town, Toronto to Sydney.

Think about the answers to these questions regarding your existing investments and pensions:

  • How safe are your investments? (And how will you know?)
  • How are your investments being monitored, and by who?
  • Which individual is managing your money?
  • When is a good time to invest?
  • What ongoing service or advice are you getting now?
  • Are your investments in line with your objectives and attitude to risk?
  • Are you on track for retirement?

The value of an investment with St. James's Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds selected and can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.

Past performance is not indicative of future performance.

The levels and bases of taxation, and reliefs from taxation, can change at any time and are dependent on individual circumstances.
